Is your desk making you sick? The science behind workplace musculoskeletal disorders

Most people don’t think about their workspace — until something starts to hurt.

A review published earlier this year in the Biomedical Journal of Scientific & Technical Research (Ghose et al., 2026) reinforces what occupational health researchers have been documenting for decades: musculoskeletal disorders are the most prevalent work-related health problem worldwide, and desk-based workers are among the highest-risk groups. Neck pain, lower back pain, and shoulder complaints are the most common presentations — driven by prolonged sitting, static postures, and workstations that weren’t set up with the individual in mind.

Importantly, the review also confirms what can be done about it. Ergonomic interventions — including workstation modifications and postural training — have been shown across multiple studies to meaningfully reduce discomfort and improve function in office workers.

At Ergo Experts, we put that evidence to work for you. Our physiotherapist-led assessments look at your specific workspace and working habits, and provide targeted recommendations that are grounded in the same research base. We also supply a curated range of ergonomic products — selected and recommended by a physiotherapist — so you can be confident that what you’re investing in will actually make a difference.

Your workspace should support your health, not erode it.
